Rescue mode

Rescue mode boots a temporary system from which you can reach your VPS disk even when it will not start.

  1. Turn on rescue mode

In the VPS panel [To be confirmed], choose Rescue and reboot. Note the temporary password it shows.

  2. Connect over SSH

    bash
    ssh root@[YOUR_IP]
  3. Find and mount your disk

    bash
    lsblk
    mount /dev/[PARTITION] /mnt
  4. Recover or fix what you need

For example, copy your data to another machine:

    bash
    scp -r /mnt/home/[USER] [OTHER_MACHINE]:/backups/
  5. Leave rescue mode

Unmount with umount /mnt, turn rescue mode off in the panel and reboot normally.

Reinstall the OS

Which systems can I choose?

The list of templates depends on the panel [To be confirmed]. It usually includes several versions of Ubuntu, Debian and other distributions.
