IPMI is a management card independent of the operating system. It works even when the server is off or the OS will not boot.

Open the web interface

  1. Open the IPMI IP

In your browser, go to https://[IPMI_IP]. A certificate warning is normal.

  2. Sign in

Use the IPMI user and password you received [To be confirmed].

  3. Open the console

Look for Remote Control, Console Redirection or iKVM (the name depends on the vendor) and pick the HTML5 console.

From the command line

ipmitool can query and control power. The -a option prompts for the password so it does not end up in your shell history:

bash
ipmitool -I lanplus -H [IPMI_IP] -U [IPMI_USER] -a chassis power status
ipmitool -I lanplus -H [IPMI_IP] -U [IPMI_USER] -a chassis power cycle
Mount an ISO to reinstall

In the KVM console look for Virtual Media or Virtual Storage, mount the ISO and reboot. Choose the virtual device in the boot menu (usually F11 or F12).
